Frequently Asked Questions

Stores

How can I order a product that is not carried in the ABC stores?

Products not carried by the ABC may be ordered as a special order at any of our store locations in the State.  All special orders must be ordered by the case.  Store personnel will take the order and forward it to the purchasing department and the product will be ordered from the supplier.  Upon arrival at the ABC warehouse, the product will be shipped to the store and the customer will be notified by store personnel when their order is in and ready for pickup.

Is there any way to purchase wine that is not available in Alabama directly from a winery for personal use?
Wine that is not available in Alabama may be purchased directly from the winery as long as it is for personal use only. Complete the Direct Import Authorization Form and give it to the winery at the time of purchase.

The wine shall be ordered and paid for by the purchaser--including prepaid freight charges. A copy of the authorization form should be shipped along with the wine. The shipment shall be consigned to the purchaser in care of the ABC Store designated on the authorization form. Upon arrival at the ABC Store, the purchaser will be contacted and upon payment of Alabama taxes, the purchaser may assume possession thereof.

Yes. A report is required each month the licensee holds an ABC license. For those months that the licensee has no activity, a zero-activity report affirming no activity must be filed. After a licensee submits an Alcohol Type Attestation Form, zero activity reports for alcohol types not produced are no longer required after the month in which the form is received. Attestation forms can be found at the below links.

Employment

How do I obtain employment with the ABC Board?

The Alabama ABC Board utilizes the Direct Appointment process for filling ABC Sales Associate I (11706), Clerk (10121), Warehouse Worker (10920), and Laborer (90101) positions. The direct appointment process provides for a streamlined method for the recruitment and appointment of qualified personnel to fill position vacancies. Through this process, an individual does not compete on a State Personnel Department register. Application for a direct appointment position should be made directly to the ABC Board.

In order to qualify for state jobs, you must first meet the minimum qualifications. These requirements can be found on any job announcement under the heading: "Qualifications Needed to Apply". Announcements for both current job listings and continuous job listings can be accessed by visiting www.personnel.alabama.gov. They can also be obtained from our Central office or any local Employment Service Office. Applicants should review each announcement carefully, noting the location of the job opening, minimum qualifications, description of job duties, and any special requirements. Taking the time to thoroughly review each announcement will help avoid applying for jobs that may not be of interest.

To be considered for employment in all cases, you must first submit a STATE APPLICATION for each classification. The most effective method is to visit the State Personnel Department website, and create a job profile under the “My Profile” section. Once you have filled in all of the required information and created a user account, you will be sent an e-mail. Click on the link in the e-mail to activate your account and sign in. Finish creating your profile and then apply for the job(s) in which you are interested.
